Low Amount of Rodeos

Hello, NashWest Guys and Girls! Are you ready for new music? I’m over-the-moon excited to announce that on Sunday evening I’ll be posting a news release concerning my new album project! This will be my first album recorded and produced in Nashville and frankly, I’m excited and nervous. I’m reminded of a funny quote my band-sister, Micki Fuhrman, sent me. It said, “I didn’t realize I was supposed to know how to do everything by my second rodeo. Seems like a very low amount of rodeos.”

In terms of rodeos, this is my 7th studio album which seems like a low amount of rodeos to have everything figured out, but I’m very proud of each of my albums and am honored to record these songs that God has placed in my heart. Recording and producing a song actually has a lot of rodeo parallels.

Songs come in like rough stock. They buck and snort and want to go where they want to go. Many times I sit down to write and tentatively reach out for the right words only to be rebuffed by any word that doesn’t ring true. A lyric will suddenly feel “honest” and then you write as fast as you can before it’s gone.

Songs are best captured with team roping. No artist can be both header and heeler. It really does take a team of talented professionals to take a song where it needs to go. I think I’ve found a great Nashville team to work with and am excited to make music in Music City.

There are many events I’m looking forward to this Fall including my 4th wedding anniversary with Gary, the Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering with my Gone with the West sisters, and the Girl Meets West Retreat in December in Escalante, Utah, but this Fall will be forever made memorable by the making of this new album. I feel grateful for this rodeo that God has given me to ride again, to swing my loop, to cowgirl up and chase my dreams. My deepest gratitude to each of you for helping make these dreams come true!

Peace, Love and Spurs..

Rock On, NashWest Guys and Girls!

Love, MK
