Be Quirky, Not Tacky

Hello, NashWest Besties! Do you feel invisible? Do you feel like you don’t really know what you want? Do you feel like there’s not enough time, resources or caffeine to get through each day?

Put your shoulders back and let’s talk about it. First of all, society values youth but remember how exhausting youth was? Ughh!  No thanks. Experience and steadiness are qualities to celebrate. Our value is an internal job. We put the price tag on ourselves. If you’ve been walking around like a Dollar Tree item, then you are not understanding that you are a Gucci, baby!

Here are some actionable ideas to feel seen, find out what you want and have enough time to do it.

1. Lean into being quirky. Not so much that you cross over into tacky, but quirky. Quirky is seen and appreciated. Quirky is interesting new glasses, bigger jewelry, calling the checker “Darling” and wearing Converse tennis shoes. Tacky is socks with sandals and not wearing a bra. You get the idea.

2. The best way to know what you really want is to let go of the things you know you should want but know deep inside you don’t really, really want. For example, I should want to be Jennifer Lopez thin but what I really want is to enjoy food and be healthy. Flush all the things you should want and forgive yourself for just really wanting simple things, like a business you do at home in your pajamas or traveling with your friends or buying the horse you’ve always dreamed of.

3. Pretend for just a moment that time and money are not real and that your happiness and wealth are based only on creating value for yourself and others. Pretend that calling a sick friend and walking the dog are as much a part of wealth as selling a product, writing a hit song or getting a raise at work. Less watching TV, more adding value. Less feeling unappreciated, more adding value. Less believing we have nothing to offer, more adding value. Adding value adds joy, resources, and energy for everything God puts on our hearts to do.
